What is the difference between PRINCE2 6 and 7?

There are several differences between the 6th edition of PRINCE2 and the 7th edition released by PeopleCert in September 2023.

These can be summarised as:

  • The introduction of a 'People' element to complement the 4 previous elements of: principles, processes, themes, and tailoring.
  • The renaming of themes to practices. The new practices are: business case, organizing, quality, risk, plans, issues, and progress.
  • The addition of 3 new management approaches for: data and digital management, commercial management, and sustainability management.
  • The incorporation of change management concepts.
  • Small changes to the number of exam questions, and an increase in the exam pass mark to 60%.
  • Minor changes to the activities within each of the 7 processes.
  • Minor changes to names and terminology.

The core method however hasn't changed. The 7 principles are the same, and apart from the few changes to activities, the 7 processes remain unchanged.

Overall, PRINCE2 7th edition represents the latest evolution of modern project management best practices, and should help project managers deliver better outcomes from projects.
