FAQs

Do I need any previous experience or prerequisites to study the AgilePM Practitioner course?

The only formal prerequisite for the AgilePM Practitioner course is a valid AgilePM Foundation V3 certificate – there is no requirement for a specific number of years of project management experience.

The AgilePM Foundation certificate demonstrates that you already understand the core concepts, roles, lifecycle, and principles of the AgilePM framework. The Practitioner course builds directly on that knowledge, moving from understanding into application – teaching you how to tailor AgilePM to different project contexts, lead agile teams, manage scope using MoSCoW prioritisation, and integrate governance and risk management into live projects.

In practice, the course suits a range of professionals, including:

  • Project managers leading agile or hybrid projects
  • Scrum Masters and agile team leads who want a stronger project management focus
  • Product owners, business change leaders, and PMO professionals
  • Anyone who already holds the AgilePM Foundation certificate and wants to progress to Practitioner level

If you do not yet hold the AgilePM Foundation V3 certificate, the combined Foundation and Practitioner course is available as an alternative, covering both qualifications in a single programme and including both exams.

The AgilePM qualification is accredited by APMG International, which sets and verifies the prerequisite rules for the Practitioner exam.

Should I choose instructor-led or self-paced AgilePM Practitioner training?

The right format depends on how you learn best, how quickly you need to qualify, and how much flexibility your schedule allows.

Choose instructor-led AgilePM Practitioner training if you:

  • Prefer live interaction and real-time Q&A with an accredited AgilePM trainer
  • Want to complete your training and exam quickly – the instructor-led course runs over 2 days on fixed scheduled dates
  • Benefit from group discussion and structured pacing to stay focused
  • Are new to applying AgilePM in practice and want guided support through the more complex scenario-based content

Choose self-paced AgilePM Practitioner e-learning if you:

  • Need to fit study around work or other commitments – the course offers 12 months access to approximately 20 hours of interactive online content
  • Prefer to revisit material at your own speed before attempting the exam
  • Are comfortable with independent study, supported by tutor and technical help via email and phone

Both formats include the AgilePM Practitioner exam (accredited by APMG International), mock exams, and access to post-course resources. Neither format includes the official AgilePM manual – this is only included in the combined Foundation and Practitioner option.

Both delivery options require the AgilePM Foundation V3 certificate as a prerequisite before sitting the Practitioner exam.

How do I take the AgilePM Practitioner exam?

The AgilePM Practitioner exam is taken online through the APMG Candidate Portal, and it is included as part of the AgilePM Practitioner course with Knowledge Train.

Here is what to expect from the exam format and process:

  • Format: Scenario-based objective testing – 60 questions based on realistic project scenarios
  • Duration: 120 minutes
  • Pass mark: 50% (30 out of 60 questions)
  • Open book: You may refer to the official AgilePM manual during the exam
  • Results: Provisional results are available on the same day
  • Prerequisites: You must hold an AgilePM Foundation V3 certificate before sitting the Practitioner exam

To register for and book the exam, candidates create a free APMG Candidate Portal account. This is also where you can view your official results, download your certificate, and claim a digital badge via Credly once results are confirmed – typically within two working days.

Passing the AgilePM Practitioner exam confers Registered Practitioner status, which is valid for five years. To maintain Registered status, candidates must retake the full Practitioner exam before the five-year period expires.

When will I receive my AgilePM Practitioner exam results and certificate?

Provisional results for the AgilePM Practitioner exam are available immediately after you complete the online exam, with official results and a marks breakdown published in the APMG Candidate Portal typically within two working days.

Here is what to expect at each stage:

  1. Provisional result – shown on screen as soon as you finish the exam, so you will know straight away whether you have passed the 50% pass mark (30 out of 60 questions).
  2. Official result and marks breakdown – published in your APMG Candidate Portal account within two working days of sitting the exam.
  3. Digital badge and electronic certificate – available to claim from the APMG Candidate Portal within two business days of the official result being issued. Digital badges are hosted via Credly, a third-party badge platform linked from the portal.

To access your results and certificate, you will need a free APMG Candidate Portal account. Every AgilePM Practitioner candidate registers for this account as part of the exam booking process.

It is worth noting that passing the AgilePM Practitioner exam confers Registered Practitioner status, which is valid for five years from the date of certification. The AgilePM Practitioner certificate itself does not expire, but to maintain Registered status beyond five years you will need to retake and pass the full Practitioner exam.

Is AgilePM Practitioner hard to pass?

The AgilePM Practitioner exam is challenging but very passable with the right preparation, and Knowledge Train reports a 99% pass rate across its learners.

The exam is designed to test applied understanding rather than memorisation. Candidates must work through scenario-based questions that require them to analyse realistic project situations and apply AgilePM v3 concepts, roles, techniques, and governance principles in context. This makes it more demanding than the AgilePM Foundation exam, which uses straightforward multiple-choice questions in a closed-book format.

Key facts about the AgilePM Practitioner exam

  • Format: 60 scenario-based, objective-test questions
  • Duration: 120 minutes
  • Pass mark: 50% (30 out of 60 correct)
  • Open book: Yes – candidates may refer to permitted materials during the exam
  • Prerequisites: A valid AgilePM Foundation V3 certificate

The open-book format and relatively accessible pass mark of 50% make the exam more approachable than many professional certifications. However, relying too heavily on looking up answers during the exam is a common mistake – the 120-minute time limit rewards candidates who have a solid working understanding of AgilePM, not just familiarity with the manual.

Preparation through structured training, mock exams, and practical application of AgilePM concepts significantly improves performance. The AgilePM Practitioner course at Knowledge Train is accredited by APMG International and includes mock exams to support exam readiness.

Can I retake the AgilePM Practitioner exam if I fail, and does it cost extra?

Yes, you can resit the AgilePM Practitioner exam if you fail, but an additional exam resit fee applies – it is not included in the original course price.

The AgilePM Practitioner exam, accredited by APMG International, is taken online at the end of your training. It consists of 60 scenario-based questions, lasts 120 minutes, is open book, and requires a pass mark of 50% (30 out of 60 correct answers). Results are available the same day.

If you do not reach the pass mark, you will need to pay a separate resit fee to attempt the exam again. Knowledge Train does not include the resit cost within the standard course fee, so it is worth budgeting for this possibility before you book.

To reduce the risk of needing a resit, consider the following:

  • Use the mock exams included with your course to practise scenario-based questions under timed conditions.
  • Take advantage of tutor support, which is available by email during the course and for up to three months afterwards.
  • Ensure you hold the AgilePM Foundation V3 certificate before sitting the Practitioner exam, as this is a formal prerequisite.

Knowledge Train reports a 99% pass rate for AgilePM courses, which suggests most candidates pass at the first attempt when they prepare thoroughly.
