FAQs
Do I need any previous experience or prerequisites to study the PRINCE2 Agile Foundation course?
No previous experience or formal prerequisites are required to study the PRINCE2 Agile Foundation course. PeopleCert, the accreditation body for PRINCE2 Agile, confirms that there are no prerequisites for the Foundation level, meaning anyone can enrol and sit the exam without holding a prior qualification.
That said, the course is designed to be most useful for certain types of professionals. You are likely to get the most value if you are:
- A project manager working in agile or hybrid environments
- A Scrum master, product owner, or agile team member
- A PRINCE2 practitioner wanting to work more flexibly
- A professional looking to gain a recognised agile project management certification
If you have no background in either PRINCE2 or agile, the course covers both from first principles. The curriculum includes an overview of PRINCE2 principles, practices, and processes, as well as an introduction to agile – covering the Agile Manifesto, common frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban, and the agile mindset.
The PRINCE2 Agile Foundation qualification is also a formal prerequisite for progressing to the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner level, so completing Foundation first is the natural starting point if you intend to pursue the full certification pathway.
Should I choose instructor-led or self-paced PRINCE2 Agile Foundation training?
The right format depends on how you learn best, how much flexibility you need, and whether you prefer structured guidance or the freedom to study at your own pace.
Both formats from Knowledge Train include the PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam, a free resit, the official digital manual, mock exams, and a 1-year PeopleCert Plus membership. The core difference is how and when you learn.
Instructor-led (2 days, live online)
- Live virtual sessions with an accredited trainer
- Real-time Q&A and discussion of hybrid delivery scenarios
- Fixed scheduled dates with 1 year of post-course resource access
- Best for: learners who benefit from structure, live interaction, and exam-focused teaching
Self-paced (16 hours, online modules)
- Interactive e-learning modules you can start anytime
- Tutor and technical support available by email and phone
- 12 months of access to all course materials
- Best for: busy professionals who need flexibility around work and travel commitments
If you are new to either PRINCE2 or agile, the instructor-led option gives you direct access to a trainer who can clarify how the two approaches fit together. If you already have some familiarity with project management frameworks and prefer to set your own study schedule, the self-paced format offers the same exam preparation and support at a pace that suits you.
How do I take the PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam?
The PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam is taken online through your PeopleCert account, and when you book a course with Knowledge Train, the exam is included in the course fee.
Here is what to expect from the exam itself:
- Format: Multiple choice (objective test)
- Number of questions: 40
- Pass mark: 60% – you need to answer 24 out of 40 questions correctly
- Duration: 60 minutes
- Closed book: No reference materials are permitted during the exam
- Prerequisites: None – there is no formal entry requirement for the PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam
- Results: Provided on the same day
The exam is sat online via your PeopleCert account. To take the exam, you need a free PeopleCert membership account, which is where you register for the exam, access your results, and download your certificate and digital badge once you pass.
Knowledge Train includes a free exam resit (PeopleCert Take2) with every booking, so if you do not pass first time, you have one further attempt at no additional cost. The PRINCE2 Agile Foundation course also includes a one-year PeopleCert Plus membership, which gives access to mock exams and practice materials to help you prepare.
There is no minimum experience or prior qualification required to sit the PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam, making it accessible to project managers, agile practitioners, and those new to the PRINCE2 Agile framework.
When will I receive my PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam results and certificate?
PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam results are available on the same day as the exam, and your certificate and digital badge are issued through your PeopleCert account once results are confirmed.
The PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam is taken online and marked automatically, so there is no waiting period for results. Once your pass is confirmed by PeopleCert – the awarding body for PRINCE2 Agile – your certificate and an exclusive digital badge are made available in your PeopleCert membership account.
To access your results and credentials, you will need a PeopleCert account. This is a free account that every candidate must set up to register for the exam. Through this account you can:
- View your exam result
- Download your PRINCE2 Agile Foundation certificate
- Access your digital badge to share on professional profiles
- Track your certification renewal status
It is worth noting that PeopleCert certifications, including PRINCE2 Agile Foundation, are valid for three years and then require renewal. A certification that is not renewed remains on PeopleCert’s Candidate Verification Service but is flagged as outdated.
The PRINCE2 Agile Foundation courses available through Knowledge Train include the exam as part of the course fee, along with a free resit (Take2) and a one-year PeopleCert Plus membership, which gives access to mock exams, masterclasses, and the ability to renew your certification through CPD points rather than by sitting the exam again.
Is PRINCE2 Agile Foundation hard to pass?
The PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam is considered manageable for most candidates who prepare properly, and Knowledge Train reports a 98% pass rate across its learners.
The exam itself is a closed-book, multiple-choice test with 40 questions, a pass mark of 60% (24 out of 40 correct), and a time limit of 60 minutes. There are no formal prerequisites, which means it is designed as an accessible entry-level qualification. Results are confirmed on the same day.
That said, the syllabus does cover a broad range of concepts, including PRINCE2 principles, practices, and processes, agile frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban, and how the two approaches combine. Candidates who are unfamiliar with either PRINCE2 or agile may need to allow more preparation time than those who already work in one of those environments.
Factors that improve your chances of passing include:
- Completing a structured PRINCE2 Agile Foundation course with accredited trainers
- Working through mock exams before sitting the real assessment
- Using the official PRINCE2 Agile manual, which is included with Knowledge Train courses
- Taking advantage of the free exam resit (Take2) included with a 1-year PeopleCert Plus membership, which is provided as part of the course fee
For candidates with no prior PRINCE2 or agile experience, the self-paced option (16 hours of study) or the two-day instructor-led course both provide structured coverage of all exam topics.
Can I retake the PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam if I fail, and does it cost extra?
A free exam resit is included with all PRINCE2 Agile Foundation courses at Knowledge Train, so there is no additional cost if you fail your first attempt.
The resit is provided through PeopleCert’s Take2 scheme, which gives candidates one further attempt at the same exam. Take2 is available to PeopleCert Plus members, and a one-year PeopleCert Plus membership is included in the course fee for both the instructor-led and self-paced options at Knowledge Train. This means the resit entitlement comes as part of the package rather than as a separate purchase.
A few practical points to be aware of:
- The Take2 resit must be used within six months of your original exam date.
- It applies to the specific PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam you sat – it cannot be transferred to a different exam.
- The PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam is a 60-minute, closed-book, multiple-choice test with 40 questions and a pass mark of 60% (24 out of 40). Results are given the same day.
- Knowledge Train reports a 98% pass rate for PRINCE2 Agile Foundation learners, so most candidates pass at the first attempt.
If you need to attempt the exam a third time, you would need to purchase a further Take2 or exam voucher separately through PeopleCert.
