BCS Business Analysis certifications and qualifications3 days

BCS Business Analysis offers individual certificates for specific areas of knowledge and practice, as well as the broader BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis. The right route depends on whether you want to certify one particular capability or build towards the wider Diploma qualification.

Each Knowledge Train module course leads to its own BCS assessment. When you pass that assessment, BCS awards the corresponding certificate. These certificates can stand alone as recognised evidence of your knowledge in that area, and some also form part of the module requirements for the International Diploma.Instructor-led

The International Diploma works differently from an individual certificate. It is not achieved by taking one Diploma course or passing one written exam. You first need a qualifying combination of four BCS module certificates: the two required core modules, one knowledge-based module and one practitioner module. You then take a separate final oral assessment with BCS.

Knowledge Train's four-module pathway provides one valid combination towards the Diploma: Business Analysis Practice and Requirements Engineering as the two core modules, the Foundation Certificate in Business Analysis as the knowledge-based module, and Modelling Business Processes as the practitioner module. BCS also accepts other qualifying knowledge-based and practitioner modules.Included (digital)

Knowledge Train is accredited by BCS to deliver training for the four modules we offer and to arrange their module exams on behalf of learners. The final International Diploma oral assessment is booked and paid for directly with BCS, and preparation specifically for that oral assessment is not included in Knowledge Train training.

Choose the BCS Business Analysis Foundation if you: Are new to business analysis or moving into a BA, change, or project role Need a broad introduction to core BA concepts, techniques, and terminology Work alongside business analysts and want to understand the discipline Are building toward the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis Choose a BCS Practitioner course if you: Already have BA experience and want to develop a specific skill area Need focused expertise in Business Analysis Practice , Modelling Business Processes , or Requirements Engineering Are progressing toward the BCS International Diploma and need to complete individual Practitioner modules Important: no prerequisites apply to any of these courses None of the BCS BA courses - Foundation or Practitioner - require formal prerequisites, so you are not blocked from taking a Practitioner course first. However, the Foundation course gives you the broader context that makes Practitioner-level content easier to apply in practice. If your goal is to earn the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis , you will need to pass all four modules: Business Analysis Foundation, Business Analysis Practice, Modelling Business Processes, and Requirements Engineering."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"Do I need BCS Business Analysis Foundation before I can take BCS Business Analysis Practitioner courses?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"No - none of the BCS Business Analysis Practitioner courses have any formal prerequisites, including the BCS Business Analysis Foundation certificate. According to the course details for each BCS Practitioner-level module available through Knowledge Train, the prerequisites for all of the following courses are listed as none : BCS Business Analysis Practice BCS Modelling Business Processes BCS Requirements Engineering This means you can enrol on any of these Practitioner courses without first completing the BCS Business Analysis Foundation course. You can also take them in any order, or combine them into the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis programme, which bundles all four modules together. That said, if you are new to business analysis, completing the BCS Business Analysis Foundation course first is a practical choice. The Foundation course covers core concepts, terminology, and frameworks - such as stakeholder analysis, process modelling, and requirements engineering - that the Practitioner courses build on. Starting at Foundation level can make the Practitioner content easier to absorb and apply. Experienced business analysts, project managers, or change professionals who are already familiar with BA concepts may find it more efficient to go directly to the Practitioner modules most relevant to their role."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"What's the difference between the BCS Business Analysis exams for Foundation, Practitioner, and the International Diploma?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"The three levels of BCS Business Analysis qualification each use a different exam format, with Foundation and Practitioner modules assessed by a 60-minute multiple-choice test, while the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis requires a 50-minute oral examination. All exams are taken online via the BCS candidate portal, and candidates must register on the portal before their exam date."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"How long are BCS Business Analysis certificates valid for, and do I need to renew?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"BCS Business Analysis certificates do not expire and do not require renewal. Once you pass a BCS exam - such as the BCS Business Analysis Foundation, BCS Business Analysis Practice, BCS Modelling Business Processes, or BCS Requirements Engineering - the qualification is yours permanently. BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT) issues a digital e-certificate to each candidate's BCS e-professional portal, typically within one week of the exam being taken. This certificate remains on your record indefinitely. A few practical points worth knowing: No continuing professional development (CPD) requirement for the certificate itself. Unlike some membership-based credentials, the individual BCS Business Analysis certificates are not tied to annual renewal fees or CPD obligations. The BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis is awarded after passing an oral examination, in addition to the four required written modules. The oral exam result is also permanently recorded. Employer expectations may vary. Although BCS certificates do not expire, some employers or clients may place greater value on recent qualifications or supplementary experience, particularly if the field or syllabus has changed significantly since you studied. If you are working toward the BCS International Diploma, BCS recommends sitting the oral exam within six months to one year of completing the four prerequisite written modules, to ensure the knowledge is fresh."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"How long are the BCS Business Analysis Foundation, Practitioner, and the International Diploma courses, and how much study time do they require?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Study time varies by qualification level and delivery format, ranging from 10 hours for a single BCS Practitioner module to 69 hours for the full BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis programme. The 12-day instructor-led and 69-hour self-paced durations reflect the complete programme. Self-paced learners have 12 months access, so the hours can be spread flexibly around work commitments. Instructor-led courses run on fixed scheduled dates and include live interaction with an accredited trainer. None of the individual modules require prior study as a prerequisite, making them accessible at any stage of a BA career. The BCS International Diploma also requires passing a 50-minute oral examination, booked separately and directly with BCS."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"Can I take BCS Business Analysis Practitioner courses without doing BCS Business Analysis Foundation?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Yes - none of the BCS Business Analysis Practitioner-level courses have any prerequisites, so you can take them without first completing the BCS Business Analysis Foundation certificate. According to the course information from Knowledge Train, the following BCS Practitioner-level courses all list no prerequisites : BCS Business Analysis Practice - focuses on investigating business situations, stakeholder analysis, gap analysis, and building business cases BCS Modelling Business Processes - covers process modelling at enterprise, event-response, and actor-task levels BCS Requirements Engineering - covers eliciting, documenting, validating, and managing requirements That said, the BCS Business Analysis Foundation course provides a broad introduction to core business analysis concepts, terminology, and techniques. If you are new to business analysis, completing Foundation first is likely to make the Practitioner-level material easier to absorb, even though it is not a formal requirement. If your goal is to work toward the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis , note that to qualify for the oral Diploma exam you must have passed four specific written modules, including both a knowledge-based module (such as Business Analysis Foundation) and practitioner-level modules. In that context, Foundation becomes a practical necessity rather than just a recommended step."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"Is the International Diploma worth it if I already have BCS Business Analysis Foundation?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Yes - the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis is worth pursuing if you already hold the BCS Business Analysis Foundation certificate, because the Foundation is just one of the four modules required, and the Diploma represents a significantly higher level of recognised professional achievement. Here is what the progression looks like in practice: The BCS Business Analysis Foundation certificate gives you a broad grounding in core BA concepts and terminology. To qualify for the BCS International Diploma oral examination , you must also pass three BCS Practitioner-level modules: Business Analysis Practice , Requirements Engineering , and one additional practitioner module such as Modelling Business Processes . Having the Foundation already means you only need to complete those three remaining modules before sitting the oral exam - reducing the overall study commitment. The Diploma is particularly valuable if you are a practising business analyst who wants a comprehensive, independently recognised qualification that demonstrates broad capability across analysis, processes, requirements, and professional practice. At Knowledge Train, the BCS International Diploma programme spans 12 days of instructor-led training or 69 hours of self-paced study and includes all four module exams. Note that the Diploma oral examination itself must be booked and purchased separately through BCS.
