Change Management courses
Develop practical capability for leading and supporting organisational change with APMG Change Management Version 3. Choose Foundation, Practitioner, or combined Foundation and Practitioner option, with live instructor-led online and self-paced online study.
Choose the option that matches what you already hold and how far you want to progress. Foundation gives you the core knowledge and language. Practitioner develops your ability to apply that knowledge in realistic situations. The combined programme takes you through both levels in sequence.
Which course should you choose?
- Choose Foundation if you are new to APMG Change Management or want a grounding in the core concepts.
- Choose Practitioner if you already hold the Foundation certificate and want to apply that knowledge in realistic situations.
- If you want to start from the beginning and progress through both levels in one programme, choose Foundation and Practitioner.
Foundation is the right route if you are new to formal change management, want to understand the APMG approach, or need a recognised starting point before deciding whether to progress further.
- No prerequisite
- Focuses on knowledge and understanding
- Foundation exam included
- Foundation certificate does not expire
Practitioner is for Foundation certificate holders who want to move from understanding concepts to analysing a situation and selecting appropriate actions.
- Foundation certificate required
- Scenario-based application
- Practitioner exam included
- Leads to Registered Practitioner status
The combined Change Management course is the direct route for someone who does not yet hold Foundation but wants to reach Practitioner level without booking the two stages separately.
- No prerequisite to start
- Foundation studied and assessed first
- Practitioner follows once Foundation has been passed
- Both exams included
- Costs less than buying the two courses separately
Choose the way you want to study
All three routes can be taken as live instructor-led online training or as self-paced online study. The certification outcome is the same, but the learning experience is different.
Instructor-led online
- Live sessions on scheduled dates
- APMG-accredited trainer
- Real-time questions, discussion and examples
- Live tutor support during the course and email support for up to 3 months afterwards
Self-paced online
- Start when you are ready
- Interactive online study at your own pace
- 12 months' course access
- Tutor support during access and for up to 3 months afterwards
Whichever format you choose, the relevant APMG exam(s) and exam preparation are included. The main difference is whether you prefer live scheduled learning or the flexibility to study at your own pace.
Private instructor-led delivery can be arranged for groups either live online or face-to-face. Public scheduled courses are delivered online.
APMG Change Management Certification
How APMG Change Management certification works
APMG Change Management is a two-level certification route for people involved in organisational change. It was developed in partnership with the Change Management Institute and the current Version 3 syllabus is aligned with the Change Management Institute Body of Knowledge.
Foundation establishes the knowledge and understanding needed to contribute to change initiatives. Practitioner builds on that base and asks candidates to apply the ideas in realistic organisational situations. APMG International accredits training organisations and administers the certification scheme.
Foundation shows that you understand the core concepts, language and approaches covered by the APMG Change Management syllabus and can contribute effectively to organisational change.
- No prerequisite to start
- Suitable for people from a range of professional backgrounds
- Foundation certificate does not expire
- Provides the prerequisite for Practitioner
Practitioner is intended to demonstrate that you can use Foundation knowledge in a realistic work situation rather than simply recall terminology.
- Foundation certificate required
- Scenario-based assessment
- Focus on selecting and applying appropriate approaches
- Passing confers Change Management Registered Practitioner status
APMG International administers the Change Management certification scheme and awards the Foundation and Practitioner certificates. Knowledge Train is an Accredited Training Organisation delivering the training and preparing candidates for the official exams.
The current Version 3 programme was developed in partnership with the Change Management Institute and aligns with its Change Management Body of Knowledge. APMG also states that successful candidates can claim two months of free Change Management Institute membership.
Choose the appropriate course, complete your preparation and sit the relevant online exam. Foundation candidates can start without a prerequisite. Practitioner candidates must already hold Foundation. If you take the combined route, Foundation is completed first and then Practitioner.
The Foundation certificate does not expire. Practitioner candidates are recognised as Registered Practitioners for 5 years. To maintain Registered Practitioner status, APMG requires a re-registration exam between years 3 and 5. If Registered status later lapses, the Practitioner certificate remains part of the candidate's record.
The total cost depends on the level and the study format you choose. Knowledge Train's course prices include the relevant exam, so you do not need to buy the first exam attempt separately. Current prices are shown in the course comparison and on each course page. The combined route costs less than buying Foundation and Practitioner separately.
- Foundation: 50 multiple-choice questions, 40 minutes, 50% pass mark, closed book
- Practitioner: 80 questions in a scenario-based objective test, 150 minutes, 50% pass mark, open book
- Practitioner requires the Foundation certificate
