FAQs
Do I need any previous experience or prerequisites to study the AIPGF Practitioner course?
The only formal prerequisite for the AI Project Governance Framework (AIPGF) Practitioner course is a valid AIPGF Foundation certificate, or equivalent knowledge of the Framework.
There is no requirement for a specific number of years of project management experience, although the course is aimed at people who are already working in, or closely alongside, AI-enabled change. Typical candidates include:
- Portfolio, programme and project delivery professionals involved in AI-enabled initiatives
- Governance, risk and compliance professionals overseeing AI use in projects and programmes
- Individuals who hold the AIPGF Foundation certificate and want to progress to Practitioner-level competence
The AIPGF Foundation course is delivered over three days and covers the purpose, principles, lifecycle stages, roles, and maturity model of the Framework. Completing it first ensures candidates have the conceptual grounding needed to apply AIPGF in realistic scenarios at Practitioner level.
The AIPGF Practitioner course itself is delivered in one day as a live online instructor-led session. It builds directly on Foundation knowledge, shifting the focus from understanding the Framework to applying it in practice. The Practitioner exam is accredited by APMG International and, once passed, the AIPGF Practitioner certificate is valid for life with no renewal or re-registration requirement.
What is the format of the AIPGF Practitioner exam and how is it taken?
The AIPGF Practitioner exam is taken online and is included as part of the AI Project Governance Framework (AIPGF) Practitioner course delivered by Knowledge Train.
Exam format at a glance
- Format: Complex multiple-choice
- Questions: 4 questions, each worth 20 marks (80 marks available in total)
- Pass mark: 50% (40 out of 80 marks)
- Duration: 2 hours
- Materials permitted: Closed book – no reference materials are allowed
- Delivery: Online
- Results: Provisional results available the same day
Prerequisites
You must hold a valid AIPGF Foundation certificate before sitting the Practitioner exam. The Foundation course covers the underpinning knowledge – principles, values, lifecycle stages, and governance roles – that the Practitioner exam expects you to apply.
After the exam
The exam is accredited by APMG International. Once results are confirmed, you can access your certificate and digital badge through the APMG Candidate Portal, typically within two business days. The AIPGF Practitioner certificate is valid for life and does not expire – there is no re-registration requirement.
When will I receive my AIPGF Practitioner exam results and certificate?
Provisional results for the AIPGF Practitioner exam are available immediately after you finish the online assessment, with official results and a marks breakdown typically published in the APMG Candidate Portal within two working days.
Here is what to expect after sitting the exam:
- Provisional result: Available on screen as soon as you complete the exam.
- Official result and marks breakdown: Published in your APMG Candidate Portal account, typically within two working days.
- Digital badge and electronic certificate: Available to claim from the APMG Candidate Portal within two business days of the official result being issued. Badges are hosted via Credly, a third-party digital badge platform linked to your Candidate Portal account.
To access your results, certificate, and badge, you will need a free APMG Candidate Portal account. Every candidate registers for this account as part of the exam booking process.
It is worth noting that the AIPGF Practitioner certificate is valid for life and does not expire. There is no re-registration exam and no renewal requirement, so once you pass, your qualification remains current indefinitely.
Is AIPGF Practitioner hard to pass?
The AIPGF Practitioner exam is challenging but achievable for candidates who have a solid grasp of the AI Project Governance Framework and are comfortable applying it to realistic scenarios.
The exam format itself is demanding. Rather than straightforward recall questions, it uses complex multiple-choice questions that require you to analyse situations and select the most appropriate course of action using AIPGF principles, lifecycle stages, roles, and the maturity model. The key exam details are:
- Format: Complex multiple choice
- Questions: 4 questions, each worth 20 marks (80 marks available in total)
- Pass mark: 50% (40 out of 80 marks)
- Duration: 2 hours
- Materials: Closed book
The pass mark of 50% is relatively accessible, but the closed-book format means you need to internalise the Framework rather than rely on notes. Candidates who have already passed the AIPGF Foundation – which is a prerequisite – will have a working knowledge of the core concepts, which helps significantly at Practitioner level.
The AIPGF Practitioner course at Knowledge Train is delivered as a one-day instructor-led live online session. It includes exam preparation, mock exams, and live interaction with an accredited trainer, all of which are designed to build the applied, scenario-based thinking the exam requires.
Can I retake the AIPGF Practitioner exam if I fail, and does it cost extra?
Yes, you can resit the AIPGF Practitioner exam if you do not pass first time, but an additional exam resit fee applies.
The AIPGF Practitioner exam – accredited by APMG International – is included in the course fee for your first attempt. If you do not reach the pass mark of 50% (40 out of 80 marks) on that sitting, you will need to pay a separate resit fee to book another attempt. The resit fee is not included in the original course price.
A few practical points worth knowing before you sit the exam:
- The exam is closed book, lasts 2 hours, and consists of 4 complex multiple-choice questions, each worth 20 marks.
- Provisional results are available on the same day, with official results and a marks breakdown published in the APMG Candidate Portal typically within two working days.
- Good exam preparation – including mock exams – is built into the Knowledge Train course to help you pass first time.
- Unlike some APMG qualifications, the AIPGF Practitioner certificate does not expire once awarded, so there is no renewal or re-registration requirement to factor in.
If you are concerned about the resit cost, focusing on the structured exam preparation provided during the instructor-led course is the most straightforward way to reduce that risk.
