Because the exam is open book, you can refer to your materials, but the scenario-based questions require genuine understanding rather than recall.

How long is PRINCE2 Agile Foundation and Practitioner valid for, and do I need to renew?

Both the PRINCE2 Agile Foundation and PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner certifications are valid for three years from the date you pass, after which renewal is required to keep your certification current.

Renewal does not mean your original pass is erased. The certificate and pass date remain on record permanently via PeopleCert’s Candidate Verification Service. What renewal updates is the status of your certification in your PeopleCert account, showing that it remains current and up to date.

There are three ways to renew a PRINCE2 Agile certification:

CPD points (PeopleCert Plus members only) – log 20 CPD (Continuing Professional Development) points per year for three consecutive years through everyday professional activity, with no further exam required.
Retake the same exam – passing the PRINCE2 Agile Foundation or Practitioner exam again resets the three-year renewal period.
Pass another certification in the same PeopleCert Product Portfolio – PRINCE2 Agile sits within the PRINCE2 Product Portfolio alongside PRINCE2, MSP, MoP, MoR, and P3O. Passing any of these certifications before your renewal date automatically renews all certifications you hold within that portfolio.

PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner goes further, requiring you to tailor PRINCE2 practices and processes to specific project contexts through scenario-based questions. The exam runs for 150 minutes and is open book, reflecting a practical, application-level standard.

Practitioner is most valuable if you:

Manage or lead agile or hybrid projects and need recognised governance credentials
Work alongside agile delivery teams as a project manager, PMO professional, or business analyst
Want to progress to senior delivery or transformation roles where applied knowledge is expected

There is also a certification renewal benefit to consider. Because PRINCE2 Agile Foundation and PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner sit within the same PeopleCert Product Portfolio, passing the Practitioner exam renews your Foundation certification for a further three years – no separate Foundation renewal is needed.

What's the difference between PRINCE2 Agile and AgilePM?

PRINCE2 Agile and AgilePM are both hybrid project management qualifications, but they combine agile with different underlying governance frameworks and are accredited by different organisations.

PRINCE2 Agile, accredited by PeopleCert, blends the PRINCE2 governance framework with agile delivery approaches such as Scrum and Kanban. It is aimed at professionals who already work within – or want to work within – a PRINCE2 environment and need to apply agile techniques at the delivery level. The qualification sits within the PeopleCert PRINCE2 product portfolio and is available at Foundation and Practitioner levels.

AgilePM, accredited by APMG International, is based on the DSDM (Dynamic Systems Development Method) framework. It provides its own agile project management structure rather than extending an existing framework like PRINCE2.

Key practical differences to consider:

Governance base: PRINCE2 Agile extends PRINCE2 principles and processes, while AgilePM is built on the DSDM framework.
Best fit: PRINCE2 Agile suits organisations already using PRINCE2 or those in sectors where PRINCE2 governance is standard. AgilePM may suit those who prefer a standalone agile PM methodology.
Prerequisites: The PRINCE2 Agile Foundation course has no formal prerequisites, making it accessible to both PRINCE2 and agile practitioners.
Accreditation body: PRINCE2 Agile is owned and accredited by PeopleCert; AgilePM is owned and accredited by APMG International.

If your organisation uses PRINCE2, or you already hold a PRINCE2 qualification, PRINCE2 Agile is the more natural progression.
