FAQs

Do I need any previous experience or prerequisites to study the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner course?

To sit the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam, you must already hold a recognised PRINCE2 Agile Foundation certificate – you cannot take the Practitioner exam without one.

PeopleCert, the accreditation body for PRINCE2 Agile, accepts the following as valid prerequisites:

  • PRINCE2 Agile Foundation (Version 2)
  • PRINCE2 Agile Foundation (Version 1)
  • PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner (Version 1) – if you are recertifying or upgrading

If you do not yet hold the Foundation certificate, Knowledge Train offers a PRINCE2 Agile combined course that covers both Foundation and Practitioner training together, with both exams included. This is a practical option if you want to achieve the full Practitioner qualification in a single study programme.

In terms of practical background, the Practitioner course is aimed at people who already work in project or delivery roles. It is particularly suited to:

  • Project managers working alongside agile teams or suppliers
  • Scrum masters, product owners, or delivery leads who need a stronger governance framework
  • PMO professionals, business analysts, and change managers supporting agile projects

While there is no formal work experience requirement to enrol, learners with some prior exposure to project management or agile delivery tend to find the scenario-based Practitioner exam more straightforward to navigate.

Should I choose instructor-led or self-paced PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner training?

The right format depends on how you learn best, how much flexibility you need, and how quickly you want to sit the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam.

Both options from Knowledge Train include the PeopleCert exam with a free resit, tutor support, mock exams, and a 1-year PeopleCert Plus membership. The core difference is how and when you study.

Choose instructor-led if you:

  • Prefer structured learning with a fixed timetable – the course runs over 2 days with live online sessions
  • Want to ask questions in real time and discuss scenario-based exam techniques with an accredited trainer
  • Are preparing for the exam within a specific timeframe and want focused, exam-ready teaching
  • Learn well through discussion and peer interaction

Choose self-paced if you:

  • Need flexibility around work or travel – you can start any time and study across 21 hours at your own pace
  • Prefer to revisit content multiple times before sitting the exam
  • Are comfortable with self-directed study supported by interactive e-learning modules
  • Want 12 months of access to course materials rather than a fixed window

Both formats include tutor support by email throughout your studies. If you are new to scenario-based, open-book exams – which is the format used for the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner assessment – instructor-led training gives you direct guidance on exam technique, which many candidates find valuable.

How do I take the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam?

The PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam is taken online through your PeopleCert account and is included as part of the Knowledge Train course fee.

Here is what you need to know before sitting the exam:

  • Format: Multiple choice (objective test)
  • Questions: 50
  • Pass mark: 60% (30 out of 50 correct)
  • Duration: 150 minutes
  • Open book: Yes – you may refer to permitted materials during the exam
  • Results: Available the same day
  • Access: Online via your PeopleCert account

Prerequisites: To sit the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam, you must hold one of the following: PRINCE2 Agile Foundation (Version 2), PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner (Version 1), or PRINCE2 Agile Foundation (Version 1). PeopleCert verifies that the prerequisite is met before releasing your results.

Free resit included: Both instructor-led and self-paced options include a free exam resit (known as Take2 through PeopleCert), so if you do not pass first time you have one additional attempt at no extra cost.

Once you pass, your PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner certificate and digital badge are issued via your PeopleCert account. The certification is valid for three years and can be renewed through CPD points, retaking the exam, or passing another certification within the PeopleCert PRINCE2 Product Portfolio.

When will I receive my PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam results and certificate?

PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam results are available on the same day as the exam, and the certificate and digital badge are issued through the candidate’s PeopleCert account once results are confirmed.

Because the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam is taken online through PeopleCert, results are processed quickly rather than requiring a waiting period of days or weeks. Once a result is confirmed, PeopleCert issues the certificate and an exclusive digital badge directly to the candidate’s PeopleCert account, where they can be downloaded and shared.

There is one important step to be aware of: PeopleCert verifies that a Practitioner candidate holds the required prerequisite before releasing Practitioner exam results. To sit the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam, candidates must hold one of the following:

  • PRINCE2 Agile Foundation (Version 2)
  • PRINCE2 Agile Foundation (Version 1)
  • PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner (Version 1)

If that prerequisite cannot be confirmed, there may be a short delay before results are released. Candidates should ensure their qualifying certificate is recorded in their PeopleCert account before exam day to avoid any hold-up.

The PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner certification is valid for three years and will then require renewal. Renewal options include logging CPD points via a PeopleCert Plus membership, retaking the exam, or passing another certification within the same PeopleCert Product Portfolio.

Is PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner hard to pass?

The PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam is challenging but achievable, with Knowledge Train reporting an 83% pass rate among its learners – well above the national average.

The difficulty comes from the nature of the exam itself. Unlike the PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam, which tests knowledge recall in a closed-book format, the Practitioner exam is scenario-based and open book. Candidates must apply PRINCE2 Agile concepts to realistic project situations rather than simply recall definitions. The exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions, has a duration of 150 minutes, and requires a pass mark of 60% (30 out of 50).

What makes candidates struggle is not the pass mark itself, but the need to think analytically under time pressure – selecting the most appropriate action in a given agile project scenario, often where more than one answer seems plausible.

Practical preparation makes a significant difference. Key factors that help include:

  • Completing the PRINCE2 Agile Foundation level first, as this is a prerequisite
  • Working through realistic practice scenarios during training
  • Using mock exams to build familiarity with the question style
  • Tutor support available through Knowledge Train during and after the course

Both instructor-led and self-paced options include the exam and a free resit (Take2, provided by PeopleCert), so candidates have a safety net if they do not pass first time.

Can I retake the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam if I fail, and does it cost extra?

A free exam resit is included with every PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner course at Knowledge Train, so a failed first attempt does not automatically mean paying again.

The resit is provided through PeopleCert’s Take2 scheme, which gives candidates one additional attempt at the same exam if their first attempt is unsuccessful. Key conditions to be aware of:

  • Take2 is tied to the specific exam it was granted for – it cannot be transferred to a different exam.
  • The resit must be used within six months of the original exam date.
  • Candidates who enrol on an instructor-led or self-paced PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner course at Knowledge Train receive a 1-year PeopleCert Plus membership as part of their course, and Take2 is included as a benefit of that membership.

If a second attempt is also unsuccessful, or if the six-month Take2 window has passed, a further resit would require purchasing an additional exam sitting through PeopleCert directly. That cost is not included in the original course fee.

The PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, lasts 150 minutes, is open book, and requires a pass mark of 60% (30 out of 50). Results are provided on the same day. Knowledge Train reports an 83% pass rate for PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner candidates, which means the majority of learners pass at the first attempt.
