Road

Reading was a key stop on the historic Bath Road (A4), which ran from London to Avonmouth near Bristol. This route still conducts local traffic, but it has been displaced for long-distance traffic by the M4, which closely fringes the borough and includes three interchanges, J10-J12. Reading is also served by the A33, A327, A329, A4074, and A4155. The Inner Distribution Road (IDR), a circular road for local traffic, runs through Reading.

Air

Reading now has two airfields, one at Coley Park, and the other at Woodley. The closest airport is London Heathrow, which is 25 miles (40 kilometers) away by car. Heathrow is served by an express bus service called RailAir, and the airport can also be reached by train line by taking the Paddington train and shifting to the TfL Rail service at Hayes & Harlington. Additionally, Birmingham Airport, Gatwick Airport, and Southampton Airport are all served by direct trains from Reading station.

Readibus
Readibus
Today, most local public transportation is provided by road, which is frequently impacted by peak hour traffic in the municipality. Reading Buses, one of the country’s few remaining municipal bus companies operate a regular local bus network inside the borough and a less frequent network in the surrounding region. Other bus companies that serve Reading include Arriva Shires & Essex, Thames Travel, and Oxford Bus Company. ReadiBus is an on-demand transportation service for those with limited mobility.
