There are numbers of theatres in Coventry. The Belgrade Theatre in Coventry that can accommodate 858 seats in its mainly two auditoriums. The main theatre supports professional touring performances, while the studio area accommodates a smaller audience of 250-300 people. It offers foods through café, bars, and meeting facilities on-site.

The theatre is an important art and cultural venue in Coventry, and it is still one of the largest regional performing theatres in the United Kingdom. This beautiful historic theatre hosts a wide range of shows, including touring musicals and critically renowned plays, as well as traditional pantomimes, comedy, live music, and a large talent development and community program.

Another famous theatre is the Criterion Theatre, which is in Earlsdon, Coventry. It presents around seven concerts each year and has a seating capacity of 122 people. They have been creating high-quality theatrical entertainment for 60 years already. The theatre has 200 volunteers who benefit from their lengthy history and allow us to pass on the talents they have learned.

Music and cinema

Coventry was the heart of the Two-Tone musical movement in the late 1970s and early 1980s, with bands such as The Specials and The Selecter hailing from the city. Between 1979 and 1981, the Specials had two UK number one singles, “Too Much Too Young” and “Ghost Town.”

The Coventry Jazz Festival and the Godiva Festival are two of the city’s music festivals. A carnival procession begins in the city centre on the Saturday of the Godiva Event and proceeds to War Memorial Park, where the festival is conducted. The Coventry Music Museum, part of the 2-Tone Village complex, celebrates Coventry’s music.

The iconic scene in the film The Italian Job of Mini Coopers being driven at high speeds down Turin’s sewers was actually shot in Coventry, utilizing what were then the country’s largest sewer tunnels, which were open because they were being constructed.

Recently, various locations in Coventry have been used in the BAFTA nominated film The Bouncer, All in the Game, also starring Ray Winstone (Ricoh Arena), the medical TV series Angels (Walsgrave Hospital), the BBC sitcom Keeping Up Appearances (Stoke Aldermoor and Binley Woods districts), and scenes from “The Shakespeare Code,” an episode of Doctor Who’s third series, were filmed in the premises of Ford’s Hospital in August 2006.
