Can I do PRINCE2 without experience?
Yes, you can do PRINCE2 without prior experience. The PRINCE2 Foundation exam and PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam have no prerequisites.
However, for the latest PRINCE2 7th edition, the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam requires you to have passed the Foundation exam or another approved qualification, such as:
- PRINCE2 (6th edition) Foundation or Practitioner
- IPMA® Levels A-D
- APM PMQ or PPQ
- PMI CAPM or PMP.
And PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam version 2 requires you to have passed the Foundation exam or another approved qualification, such as:
- PRINCE2 Agile (version 1) Foundation or Practitioner
Can I get PRINCE2 for free?
No. Accredited PRINCE2 certification requires a paid exam. Free primers exist, but they do not lead to certification.
Can I learn PRINCE2 for free?
You can learn the basics from public resources. To prepare effectively for the exam, use a structured course. Certification itself is not free.
Can I study PRINCE2 on my own?
Yes, you can study PRINCE2 independently. You can buy the official PRINCE2 manual, download the syllabus and sample exams from the PeopleCert website, and prepare on your own.
However, most people find it quicker and easier to purchase a self-paced PRINCE2 course that includes the exams. These courses are usually valid for up to 12 months, giving you plenty of time to study for your certification.
Can you do PRINCE2 online?

Does my PRINCE2 certification expire?
The PRINCE2 Foundation certificate and PRINCE2 Practitioner certificate must be renewed every 3 years.

Certificates issued before June 2020 had a renew-by date of 1 July 2023. Expired Foundation certificates remain valid as exam prerequisites.
