becomes apparent. This is especially true when PRINCE2 7 discusses collaboration and co-creation, a specific form of collaboration where users and key influencers work together in the design of products. This requires ways of working to be agreed between both the organizational and project ecosystems.

Agile ideas have also influenced PRINCE2 7 with its emphasis on feedback in the context of collaborative working practices. Leadership, in PRINCE2 7, is about persuading, influencing, and co-creating, with an emphasis on managing key relationships and seeking regular feedback to ensure the teams remain aligned with the project’s objectives. PRINCE2 7th
edition provides general advice about leadership and identifies key aspects to be considered by professional involved in directing, managing, or

Project managers are tactical decision-makers, operating within project constraints. They are responsible for decisions about task prioritisation, resource allocation, and risk management, but they typically don’t have authority to make decisions about the overall project’s scope or direction. In contrast, product managers have strategic decision-making power. They decide what features the product should have, how it should be positioned in the market, and when to pivot based on customer feedback or market changes. Product managers make decisions that have long-term implications for the product. Many of the previous entries which previously had their own entry on Appendix A are now described as part of a larger management product. For example, the new project log contains the previously separate entries for the daily log, lessons log, issue register, quality register, and risk register.
Stakeholder managementThe management products are also described in a more simplified way with the removal of the previous quality criteria applicable to each

, one could say that apart from some name changes, not a lot of PRINCE2 hasn’t changed in the 7 like Microsoft Project or Asana can provide comprehensive solutions for task assignment, progress tracking, and resource management.Agile promotes the idea of sustainable development. In short, this means that with the correct implementation of agile methods, there should never be the need for developers to work ridiculous hours just to meet deadlines.

PRINCE2 still remains a project management methodology, and it still has : Agile and Scrum methodologies have become increasingly popular in project management, particularly in software development. These approaches emphasise flexibility, iterative development, and continuous improvement. Scrum boards and Sprint planning tools are commonly used to support these methodologies.

7 principlesProduct management tools and frameworks

  • , 7 processes, and 7 practices (formerly themes), and it still requires the method to be tailored to suit the project environment. The Product managersCustomers tell developers what they need, stakeholders understand how changes may affect development and teams can make informed decisions as to how progress is to be made. No one is left out of the loop and no one is taken by surprise by unexpected developments.
  • utilise specialised tools to define and communicate product strategy effectively. Some tools and frameworks commonly used by product managers include:project management rolesThis helps reduce stress and avoids employee ‘burn out.’
  • Product road mapping software and responsibilities has remained fundamentally unaltered too.9. Quality assurance
  • : Tools like ProductPlan or Aha! help create visual roadmaps that outline product vision, features, and timelines. These tools are used to align stakeholders and guide development efforts. The two main areas of PRINCE2 that have only seen minor changes in the 7Many businesses prioritize speed or quantity over quality. In some cases, this makes a lot of sense. Sometimes customers don’t care as much for quality so whether or not a product works.
  • User story mapping and prioritisationthBut, if development teams neglect quality for too long, their ability to adapt the product to suit current consumer demands diminishes and it becomes less agile.

  • Shared tools and methodologiesPrinciples
  • Project managers and product managers both rely on collaboration and communication platforms such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, or Zoom to facilitate real-time communication and information sharing among team members and stakeholders. These tools allow both types of managers to keep everyone aligned and informed, and to quickly address any issues that may arise. The only thing within the principles that has changed is 2 minor name changes. The new names being ‘ensure continued business justification’ and ‘define roles, responsibilities, and relationships’ to reinforce the new People element. Other than name changes though, the principles remain the same as the previous edition.10. Simplicity
  • Data analysis and reporting tools such as Tableau or Power BI are also valuable for both project managers and product managers. These tools allow managers to analyse performance metrics, create visualisations, and generate reports for stakeholders. They help both types of managers to make data-driven decisions and to demonstrate the impact of their work.ProcessesThis principle is like number 7: working software. But while the focus of that principle was about removing unnecessary documentation, this principle focuses more on processes.

By leveraging the appropriate tools and methodologies, both project and product managers can enhance their effectiveness, improve team collaboration, and drive successful outcomes in their respective domains.Within the 7 processes, there are no substantive changes, only minor ones. The names of the processes remain the same, but some of the activities within each process have had names changes, and in some cases have additional activities. This principle can be achieved in several ways. Firstly, you can remove bloated processes that do not contribute to the overall quality or progress of a project. Secondly, you can rely on automation to complete repetitive or time-consuming tasks. Or thirdly, you might use pre-existing assets from past projects rather than creating ones from scratch each time you begin something new.

  • See all dates edition continues with even more welcome improvements. It’s new focus on people fills in the biggest omission from previous editions. The addition of the new management approaches for data and digital management, commercial management, and sustainability management are also long overdue. This principle is similar to number 5: autonomy and motivation. The difference here lies in the comparison between agile teams and traditional development teams. Traditional methods often compartmentalize their development teams. For example, ‘Team A’ completes one task, then passes it on to ‘Team B’ who layers their contribution on top of this etc.
  • Its incorporation of change management concepts is perhaps the most interesting new addition. Whether this is a sign that the project and change management professions will at some point become one remains to be seen, but bringing change management concepts into the project management world can only be a good thing and one that contributes to more successful project outcomes. The best architectures, requirements, and designs emerge from self-organizing teams.

remains at the forefront of what modern project management should be about. As such, applied wisely in organizations, PRINCE2 can only help to bring about better outcomes and realize better returns on investments from This not only minimizes the need for upper management to micro-manage development but also ensures that processes such as quality assurance and adaptation are an inherent part of agile development and thus occur naturally and autonomously.
