PRINCE2 Quality Review Technique

The PRINCE2 Quality Review technique forms part of the Quality component within PRINCE2 and is covered in detail during any PRINCE2 training course.

This technique is useful for assessing the quality of paper-based documents. It consists of a number of steps:

a: a The Producer of the document circulates the document to a group of Reviewers along with a copy of the Product Description for the document and a question sheet.

b: b The Reviewers review the document against its quality criteria specified in its Product Description and write down on the question sheet any problems or questions which they have identified. Normally spelling mistakes (typos) are annotated on the document itself.

c: c Reviewers return all question papers and documents to the Producer.

d: d Reviewers attend a review meeting with the Producer and discuss all of the problems/questions which have been raised and they try to reach a consensus regarding what needs to be fixed in the document. A Scribe writes down everything which is agreed.

e: If the Reviewers agree that the document is ‘fit for purpose’ then the review Chairperson can sign off the document at the meeting.

f: If Reviewers agree that further (remedial) work is required to be done on the document to make it ‘fit for purpose’ then this must be done by the Producer and the revised document circulated to Reviewers for their approval. If all revisions have been correctly made, then the review Chairperson can sign off the document.

g: If remedial work cannot be completed within a short period of time, then the Team Manager needs to raise this as a Project Issue. If performing the remedial work is forecast to threaten tolerances, this must be escalated to the Project Manager in the form of an Exception Report.

"The course instructor was really good! He structured the content well and took us through the manual and process in a very well organised way.
There is no doubt that you will see me again in the future for the “Practitioner” bit after I have put the new skills to use and have got some more experience! "

Mark Hawkins, Technology Manager, Merlin
