PRINCE2 Process - Closing a Project (CP)

The PRINCE2 process Closing a Project (CP) is performed by the Project Manager at the end of a project. The activities performed during this process are described in detail as part of the PRINCE2 training courses offered by Knowledge Train.

At the end of the project, the Project Manager decommissions the project. Acceptance for final products from customers and users, support and maintenance teams is checked and obtained where necessary. The Project Manager archives all project documentation in case of a future audit.

In addition, the Project Manager documents any outstanding Project Issues that were never dealt with during the project, documents any lessons that can learned to enable better planning and management on future projects.

The Project Manager also plans when, how and by whom the project benefits are to be measured in the future. This is documented in a Post Project Review Plan.

The Project Plan is updated with the ‘actuals’ from the final stage and an End Project Report is written which describes what was achieved on the project compared with what was expected to be achieved.

Finally, the Project Manager recommends the termination of the project to the Project Board which takes the final decision about whether to close the project. If the decision to close the project is taken, then all project resources are released and the project is formally closed. No more work shall be done on the project.

This process is performed by the Project Manager once for a project.

"Having been a trainer, and training manager, I 'd unreservedly recommend Knowledge Train to any potential PRINCE2 candidates. I have done so on price alone, yet having just undertaken the PRINCE2 Practitioner course I can only say that the whole training experience (meaning from initial enquiry through to course delivery and examination) was first rate.
