The PRINCE2 Change Control technique is described within the Change component chapter of the PRINCE2 manual and forms part of all PRINCE2 training courses offered by Knowledge Train.
This technique may be useful if there are no currently defined procedures or processes for change control within an organisation and can assist in ensuring that changes do not derail the project.
This technique describes a number of steps:
a: Capturing the Project Issue (Request for Change) in the Issue Log
b: Performing impact analysis against each Project Issue to understand the impact of performing this change on the Business Case, risks, plans, cost, schedule and tolerances.
c: The Project Board (or Change Authority) makes a decision about implementing the change based upon its impact, importance and priority.
d: Any change which threatens existing tolerances must be escalated to the Project Board who can then decide whether to allow additional tolerance to the stage, seek further funding or time from Corporate or Programme Management or reject the change.
