PRINCE2 is changing

On June 16th, the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) is launching the updated version of PRINCE2. See my previous post about PRINCE2 2009.

How may this affect you?
Well, if you have already hold a PRINCE2 Practitioner certificate, then it doesn’t really matter to you in terms of your training needs, other than to say that the updated version of PRINCE2 represents the most current project management best practices. Things have moved on since the last major upgrade to PRINCE in 1996. New and better ways of managing projects have been incorporated into the updated version, and these were not regarded as best practice when the current version of PRINCE2 was written. To ensure you are really managing your project using the most up to date best practices then you may consider attending one of our brand new one day PRINCE2 2005-9 Bridging courses, which covers the changes to the method that have been incorporated into the new version.

If you already hold a PRINCE2 Foundation certificate, then things are a little bit more complicated. Your Foundation certificate will still remain the pre-requisite for taking ht new style PRINCE2 Practitioner exam and course, but you will have learned the method from the current 2005 version. This means there will be gap in your knowledge between the 2005 and 2009 versions. Again, to best prepare yourself for a PRINCE2 Practitioner exam and course, I would recommend that you sit the new PRINCE2 2005-9 Bridging course. This will help you fill in the gaps in your knowledge. You could then attend one of our 2 day PRINCE2 Conversion courses which will prepare you for the new style PRINCE2 Practitioner exam.

If you haven’t taken any PRINCE2 course so far, then not to worry, you have a choice. If you register to take a course before July 6th 2009, then your course will be based upon the 2005 version of PRINCE2. Register for a course after July 6th 2009 then your course will be based upon the new version of PRINCE2.

I’ll be adding more information about this new course and answering more questions about the differences between the 2005 and 2009 exams in a later post.

"The course was well structured and the trainer was excellent. The learning environment in terms of the facilities were ideal, and we all really benefitted from the class sizes which meant personal contact with our teacher was maximised. I would recommend Knowledge Train wholeheartedly to anyone interested in PRINCE2."
