How is PRINCE2 Practitioner different from Foundation?
When enrolling on a PRINCE2 training course at Knowledge Train, people are often interested in the difference between the Foundation and Practitioner levels. In particular, our course advisors are often asked what makes the Practitioner the more challenging level of PRINCE2. Please read on for an explanation of how the Foundation and Practitioner differ, in order to help ensure that you complete the most appropriate level of PRINCE2 training for your project management needs.
PRINCE2 Foundation – the introductory level – explores the principles, themes, and processes at the heart of the PRINCE2 methodology. It is most suited to individuals who want to develop a detailed understanding of how the method works, in order to participate effectively in PRINCE2 project teams. By contrast, PRINCE2 Practitioner is for those who want to apply the method to the management of projects, and is therefore ideal for existing and aspiring project managers.
The Foundation training covers more topics than the Practitioner, because the latter concentrates on how delegates can apply their existing PRINCE2 knowledge to particular projects. While there are certain advanced aspects of PRINCE2 that you learn about at Practitioner level (chiefly, how the method can be tailored to suit various kinds of projects), the focus of Practitioner training is on applying what you already know to specific scenarios. It should be noted that the Foundation qualification is a pre-requisite for the Practitioner.
When studying for the Practitioner exam, you need to ensure that you not only understand the PRINCE2 principles, themes, and processes, but can also apply them to projects of various kinds. In addition, you should pay careful attention to the management products (documents created during PRINCE2 projects), with the aim of being able to create and evaluate them.
Becoming a PRINCE2 Practitioner is a normal part of many project managers’ careers; PRINCE2 is commonly thought of as the de-facto standard method of managing projects in the UK, and many project management job vacancies specify that candidates should be familiar with it.
Whichever PRINCE2 qualification you are aiming for, Knowledge Train can help. We have superb pass rates of 99% for the Foundation exam and 85% for the Practitioner exam, which means you can be confident about our training expertise.
