Global popularity of PRINCE2 qualifications
What might a project manager employed in Portugal have in common with one leading a project in Kenya? What might appear on the CV of both a project support officer based in the UK and someone assisting project teams in the Czech Republic?
A PRINCE2 qualification is the answer to both questions. Around the globe, increasing numbers of project management professionals are aiming to become qualified in PRINCE2, a world-class project management method. As the method’s accreditation body, APMG, recently emphasised, ‘PRINCE2 is an international phenomenon’. Both the PRINCE2 method and its certification scheme are growing in popularity in many countries.
PRINCE2 originated in the UK – where it is widely regarded as the de-facto standard method of managing projects – and its principles, themes, and processes are now being adopted by project management professionals in more than 100 countries. The fact that PRINCE2 exams are provided in locations as diverse as Austria, Australia, Canada, Germany, Korea, Russia, Qatar, UAE, and Zimbabwe should give you a clear insight into the global influence of PRINCE2!
Increasing demand for PRINCE2 exams
There is plenty of evidence to support PRINCE2’s claim to being an internationally recognised method of managing projects, including the following observations.
- More PRINCE2 exams were taken during 2011 than at any other time since the introduction (during summer 2009) of the current version of the method.
- Interest in the PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification is particularly strong; when compared to early 2011, the first few months of 2012 witnessed a marked increase in the number of Practitioner exams taken.
- In Scandinavia, the number of Practitioner exams taken during the first few months of 2012 was more than twice that taken during the same period last year. Regions such as Central Asia and South America are also seeing a large increase in demand for the exams.
- PRINCE2 exams are available in numerous different languages such as Arabic, English, German, Polish, and Spanish.
It seems likely that the challenging economic climate is contributing to the global popularity of PRINCE2. Organisations arguably need to be more certain than ever before that their projects can be managed effectively, in order to avoid wasting time and money. Individuals know that a well recognised, relevant qualification can increase potential employers’ confidence in their suitability for project management roles.
